Vodafone Qatar goes HD; Ooredoo goes VR

24 Mar 2016

Vodafone Qatar has announced the launch of high definition voice (HD voice) technology across its entire 3G network, improving the quality of calls for 3G and 4G subscribers. The cellco’s 4G mobile data users currently make voice calls over the 3G network. The HD voice service is available for any compatible handset user but initially only for domestic on-net calls. Vodafone says the new technology makes it easier to hear or be heard on your mobile, offering ‘crystal clear’ conversations and filtering out background noise; another touted advantage is a better conference call experience particularly beneficial for business users.

Also this week, the larger of Qatar’s two cellcos, Ooredoo, has announced the launch of the Samsung Gear VR, a virtual reality headset for Samsung device users. Ooredoo’s website says the Gear VR works seamlessly with Galaxy smartphones, whilst it costs QAR399 (USD109.50) to buy.
