Tigo Paraguay intends to activate its 4G LTE network on 7 April, serving 24 cities at launch. According to La Nacion, which cites an interview with company official Anibal Corina, the network will go live in the following locations: Asuncion, Capiata, Lambare, Fernando de la Mora, Luque, Mariano Roque Alonso, Nemby, San Lorenzo, Villa Elisa, Caacupe, San Bernardino, Ciudad del Este, Hernandarias, President Franco, Santa Rita, Salto del Guaira, Encarnacion, Pedro Juan Caballero, Concepcion, San Estanislao, Caaguazu, Coronel Oviedo, Villarrica and Pilar. The cellco hopes to achieve 40% population coverage by end-2016, rising to 66% by 2020, the paper notes.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Tigo agreed to pay USD45 million for its 2100MHz/1700MHz AWS concession in December 2015. Fellow bidder Claro is expected to switch on its network by August 2016, at the latest.
