Comcast DOCSIS 3.1 trial gets underway in Atlanta

16 Mar 2016

US cable giant Comcast has announced that it has initiated ‘an advanced consumer trial of Gigabit internet’ in a number of neighbourhoods in Atlanta, Georgia. Last month, the cableco unveiled plans to offer Gigabit broadband using DOCSIS 3.1 technology in Atlanta and Nashville in early 2016, with Chicago, Detroit, and Miami to follow in the second half of the year. Previously, in December last year Comcast successfully installed its first DOCSIS 3.1 modem in Philadelphia, with a second subsequently being installed in Atlanta a few days later. Announcing the development, Comcast Central Division President Bill Connors commented: ‘The capabilities of DOCSIS 3.1 are incredibly exciting and we are the first to market with a Gigabit offering that runs over our existing cable infrastructure’.
