Mediacom plots USD1bn Project Gigabit deployment

15 Mar 2016

In recognition of the 20th anniversary of its first cable system purchase, US cableco Mediacom Communications says it plans to invest USD1 billion over the next three years to upgrade and expand its national broadband network. Headlining the list of planned company initiatives is ‘Project Gigabit’, a wide-scale deployment of 1Gbps broadband service to virtually all of the three million homes and businesses within the 1,500 communities located in Mediacom’s 22-state footprint. The cableco expects to bring the first wave of Project Gigabit communities online as early as the fourth quarter of 2016. The capital investment programme will also see the cableco deploy community Wi-Fi access points in high-traffic commercial and public areas across its national footprint and expand Mediacom Business’s high-capacity network in downtown areas and commercial districts.
