Telecentras offers LTE for smartphone users

26 Feb 2016

Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (also known as Telecentras), which provides WiMAX and LTE services under the MEZON brand name, has begun offering its 4G LTE service for smartphone users via a dual SIM handset. To use the new service, customers require a ZTE Blade D2 Nuo smartphone, which has one SIM card (from Telecentras) for data services and another (from one of the country’s mobile network operators) for access to voice and SMS.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that in September 2015 state-owned Telecentras contracted Chinese equipment vendor Huawei to migrate its existing WiMAX networks to a time division duplex LTE-Advanced (TD-LTE-A) platform, which was switched on in Klaipeda, Taurage, Telsiai, Utena, Alytus and Anyksciai two months later, with 4G services expanded to the capital Vilnius in January and Panevezys earlier this month.
