TCA reports small rise in Japan’s mobile user base in Q4 2015

The Telecommunications Carriers Association (TCA) of Japan has published its quarterly update on the country’s mobile market, reporting a 0.99% rise in the total number of connections for the three months ended 31 December 2015 to 154.419 million from 152.894 million at end-September.

Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers NTT DOCOMO added a net 1.108 million new users in three months for a year-end total of almost 69.602 million, keeping it ahead of second-placed KDDI (au) with 45.241 million (up 600,400 quarter-on-quarter), while Softbank Mobile brought up the rear with 39.577 million, down from 39.760 million previously. In addition, the TCA reported that broadband wireless access (BWA) provider UQ Communications continues to go from strength to strength. It reported a total of 15.689 million WiMAX users at 31 December 2015, up from 13.158 million three months earlier and 11.241 million at end-2014.
