US private equity firms Warburg Pincus and Apollo are now the only two remaining parties interested in acquiring Deutsche Telekom’s Dutch wireless unit T-Mobile Netherlands. According to a report from Reuters, which cites ‘people familiar with the transaction’, the Dutch cellco will attract offers of around EUR3 billion (USD3.4 billion). A number of potential bidders have recently distanced themselves from the sale; cable group Liberty Global is no longer interested as it is now in talks to create a tie-up with Vodafone Netherlands, while Apax has also decided not to bid. Deutsche Telekom had been hoping to raise EUR3.6 billion from the sale of T-Mobile Netherlands and sources suggest that it may hang onto the unit if final offers are not deemed high enough.
