12 Feb 2016

Tigo Paraguay is staging takeover discussions with regional cable operator TV Cable Parana, based in the city of Ciudad del Este. Company director Raul Ibanez told Ultima Hora that the deal will help to expand the reach of the telco’s cable unit, Tigo Star, which was launched in March 2014. TV Cable Parana is owned by local businessman Bruno Madelaire Acevedo and is said to preside over a customer base of 14,324.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in December 2014 it was revealed that Tigo had lined up acquisitions for three regional operators: Saturno (based in Fernando de la Mora), Sur Multimedia (Encarnacion) and TV Cable Parana. The Saturno deal closed in January 2015, while the Sur Multimedia acquisition was sealed in June.
