Nigerian mobile lines exceed 150m milestone

The number of active GSM lines in Nigeria – Africa’s largest mobile market by subscribers – grew by 8.7% in 2015 to reach a total of 148.681 million at the end of December, according to the latest figures from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). In comparison, the number of active mobile CDMA lines declined by 1.8% from 2.188 million at the end of December 2014 to 2.149 million twelve months later. Combined, the total number of GSM and CDMA mobile lines totalled 150.830 million at 31 December 2015, an increase of 8.5% from 138.960 million in 2014. The regulator reported that the West African nation ended 2015 with just 187,155 fixed and fixed-wireless lines in service, up slightly from 183,290 the previous year.
