Orange-Bouygues takeover talks to last until March

4 Feb 2016

Stephane Richard, CEO of French telecoms giant Orange, has revealed that negotiations with domestic conglomerate Bouygues for the acquisition of its telecoms arm Bouygues Telecom are expected to conclude by early March. Mr Richard told Reuters: ‘I can’t say at this point whether it will be at the end of February or the start of March, but [it] will be around that time.’

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in January 2016 Orange and Bouygues entered into a confidentiality agreement, which marked the beginning of official negotiations in regards to Orange’s acquisition of its smaller rival; the deal is valuing Bouygues at roughly EUR10 billion (USD10.9 billion). The takeover is expected to be investigated by France’s antitrust regulator, the Competition Authority (Autorite de la Concurrence), with the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (Autorite de Regulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes, Arcep) acting as an advisor.
