Movistar Argentina has reportedly achieved downlink transmission speeds of up to 134Mbps in a laboratory setting using carrier aggregation (CA) technology. According to an unconfirmed report by TeleSemana, the cellco utilised a combination of 1700MHz/2100MHz AWS spectrum and 700MHz frequencies.
TeleGeography notes that Movistar’s LTE network went live in December 2014, one month after it won a nationwide concession pairing frequencies in the 1710MHz-1720MHz and 2110MHz-2120MHz bands. The cellco recently revealed that it had signed up a total of 1.5 million 4G customers by the end of December 2015. At that date its 4G network comprised 2,500 cell towers, with LTE coverage supported in more than 300 locations across 17 provinces.
