Entel gearing up for LTE-A launch

2 Feb 2016

Entel Chile, the country’s second largest cellco by subscribers, has unveiled plans to launch LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) services later this year, using the recently awarded spectrum in the 700MHz band alongside its existing 2600MHz holdings. Diario Financiero quotes Manuel Araya, Entel’s head of regulatory and corporate affairs, as saying that the company has already completed 25% of its planned rollout. The executive declined to provide a precise schedule for the launch, however, or to say which areas would be the first to receive the upgraded service, commenting that ‘we will know in due course, we are now working to build this project, which is quite long-winded.’ The official went on to note that of the cellco’s roughly 1.048 million 4G customers, more than 500,000 already have handsets compatible with the 700MHz range and around 65,000 use devices compatible with LTE-A technology.
