Nokia, Bell Canada launch terabit-speed network performance

Finnish vendor Nokia has announced the deployment of its next-generation IP core network router, the 7950 XRS (Extensible Routing System), with telco Bell Canada. The move bolsters the operator’s network capacity to support its consumer and business subscribers by delivering highly scalable and reliable transport and access technology, according to a press release. Nokia notes the 7950 XRS is able to handle multiple terabits of data per second to the gigabit connected home and the cloud connected enterprise, while it delivers 32Tbps switching capacity to aid Bell’s operational efficiency and maximise the capabilities of its IP network. The new core router supports Bell’s Gigabit Fibre Internet Infrastructure project, which has already delivered high speed broadband to approximately two million homes in Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. The deal was won by Nokia subsidiary Alcatel-Lucent.
