Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced that it is partnering with Taiwan’s Far EasTone (FET) for a pre-commercial software-defined infrastructure (SDI) trial. As per the two companies’ plans, FET will adopt Ericsson’s HDS 8000 solution, which will enable the operator to optimise its datacentre operations through increased utilisation, and build a competitive public cloud infrastructure. Ericsson HDS 8000 is touted as ‘a new generation of advanced datacentre systems using disaggregated hardware architecture, with full optical interconnect backplane for lower total cost of ownership’. As such, the vendor claims that this means hardware resources are used more efficiently compared with fixed function devices.
Commenting on the development, Mike Lee, Executive Vice President of Enterprise & Carrier Business Unit at FET, was cited as saying: ‘With this partnership exploration, we believe Ericsson HDS 8000 solution will play a key role in redefining our next generation datacentre infrastructure, as we evolve towards the ICT era.’
