Alca-Lu to roll out IP core/edge router solution for NTT DOCOMO

7 Jan 2016

Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DOCOMO, has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy its 7950 Extensible Routing System, described as a ‘powerful’ IP core/edge routing platform, as it looks to better manage rapidly rising data demand from the roughly 68.5 million subscribers on its network. In a press release, the Paris-based equipment maker notes that DOCOMO is experiencing a sharp rise in 4G LTE take-up, translating to a surge in data traffic across the country, a situation that will be magnified by the anticipated proliferation of Internet of Things’ (IoT) adoption in future. The 7950 XRS core/edge platform will enable the mobile operator to increase operational performance on its mobile infrastructure, while simultaneously reducing operating costs. The 7950 XRS is based on Alca-Lu’s Service Router Operating System (SROS) and supports the move to network virtualisation, the vendor says.
