Nigerian MNOs to roll out 4G in 2017, report claims

23 Dec 2015

According to an unconfirmed report in the Leadership newspaper, Nigeria’s four main mobile network operators (MNOs) – MTN, Airtel, Etisalat and Globacom – intend to roll out commercial 4G LTE networks by 2017. Unnamed sources suggest that the big four are ready to kick start 4G services as soon as the nation’s broadcasting regulator relinquishes so-called ‘digital dividend’ spectrum bands to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for it to auction. That will take place as soon as TV broadcasters complete the migration from analogue to digital TV platforms, the report suggests.
