Telstra offers free Wi-Fi to mobile subscribers until June 2016 via its ‘Telstra Air’ network

15 Dec 2015

Australia’s Telstra has announced the opening of its nationwide Wi-Fi network, branded ‘Telstra Air’, to its pre-paid and post-paid mobile subscribers. Confirming the development via press release, the operator revealed that new and existing mobile customers will have free, unlimited Wi-Fi over the Telstra Air network until 30 June 2016, while existing Telstra Air members and Telstra home broadband customers who sign up for the service will benefit from ‘quota-free’ Wi-Fi at Telstra Air hotspots during this period, provided they do not exceed their home broadband allowance.

Launched in June 2015, the Telstra Air network comprises thousands of Telstra Wi-Fi hotspots at selected pink payphone sites and retail stores at some of the country’s ‘busiest and most iconic locations’, as well as ‘homespots’ created by Telstra Air members. Since launch close to 300,000 members are said to have joined the network, which is available in more than 250 towns and cities across the country, while ten councils have partnered with Telstra to roll out additional public hotspots in civic spaces.
