PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) has extended its LTE footprint to Malang, the second largest city in East Java, making it the twelfth urban area to receive 4G after commercial launches in Jakarta, Bali, Bandung, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, Lombok, Manado, Batam, Yogyakarta, and Balikpapan. IndoTelko quotes the cellco’s president, Ririek Adriansyah, as saying: ‘The presence of Telkomsel’s 4G LTE services in Malang is expected to increase the productivity of students and residents living there, as well as supporting the activities of tourists visiting the city.’ To date, Telkomsel has deployed more than 2,200 4G-enabled base transceiver stations (BTS) and signed up around two million customers.

In October this year the carrier confirmed it had launched 4G LTE services in Manado city, at the time the eighth location to be upgraded to the advanced platform. At that date, Telkomsel had deployed more than 1,200 4G BTS nationwide and signed up approximately 1.3 million customers.
