Telenor Norway and NetCom have been named as the winners of spectrum in the 1800MHz band in an auction by the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom).
With the first part of the frequency allocation process having ended after seven days, and 83 rounds, of bidding, the regulator confirmed that the total price raised by the spectrum sale was NOK877.98 million. Telenor bagged the larger batch of spectrum, securing 2×10MHz in the 1800MHz band for NOK583.32 million, while NetCom secured 2×5MHz at a cost of NOK292.66 million. In terms of the actual spectrum allocation, this will be decided in the second phase of the auction process, with both companies having been given until 20 January 2016 to negotiate the frequency placements between themselves. Should the duo fail to reach an agreement within the timeframe, the Nkom has said a placement auction would be conducted.
