GO faster: Maltese operator launches 4G

3 Dec 2015

Maltese fixed and mobile operator GO has launched its 4G LTE network, initially in ‘high traffic areas’ covering some 60% of the population. The firm says a nationwide switch-on will follow ‘shortly’. GO says its 4G network is 100% fibre connected, meaning it is much more resilient and can scale up seamlessly as demand arises. Customers on its Limitless One, Two and Three mobile plans will be upgraded to 4G for free. The company says: ‘In the coming months, GO will also make 4G available to customers on other mobile pre-paid and post-paid plans.’ Equipment for the network upgrade was supplied by Nokia Networks and Alcatel-Lucent. Malta’s mobile market leader Vodafone introduced LTE-based services back in November 2013 and now provides virtually nationwide coverage.
