ER-Telecom gets approval for five Irkutsk takeovers

ER-Telecom, which operates cable TV and fibre-based broadband/telephony across 56 Russian cities in 32 regions, has received approval from the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) to buy five telecoms operators based in the eastern Irkutsk region. Broadband TV News writes that the acquisitions of Irkutsk Business Network, Viakom, Sibtelecom, Corvet Telecom and Irkutsk Telecom are expected to cost the company a total of roughly RUB100 million-RUB150 million (USD1.53 million-USD2.29 million), and will strengthen ER’s position in Irkutsk (city), where its broadband/pay-TV market shares currently stand at around 28%/30%.
