Claro Chile launches fixed line replacement service over wireless network

24 Nov 2015

Full service provider Claro Chile has quietly launched a fixed line replacement service over its wireless networks, a senior Claro official was quoted by Diario Financiero as saying. The offerings have ‘had a discreet entrance,’ Director of Residential and SME Marketing Mariano Orihuela noted, adding that the platform will see ‘much more communications activity’ in the coming weeks. The service, which has yet to be advertised on the company’s website, is ideal for bundling with satellite TV services, the official explained, as ‘in most cases, where there is satellite TV, there is also wireless coverage.’ Mr Orihuela went on to note that the introduction of the replacement service was made possible by the implementation of a 73% decrease in access charges in 2014. The service is more convenient and accessible than a standard fixed line as it does not require the installation of any new cables, and the official expects around 5%-10% of Claro’s fixed line subscriber base to be using the replacement service in the medium term.
