VNPT-Net, the network infrastructure arm of state-owned Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), has contracted Nokia Networks to significantly enhance the speed and coverage of cellco VNPT-Vinaphone’s 3G service. Under the contract, Nokia Networks has delivered its Single RAN radio access network, core network elements, partner products and services expertise, while doubling maximum download speeds to 42Mbps and preparing the groundwork for 4G services. ‘As one of the country’s most preferred operators, we are bound to our commitment to offer a truly rewarding service experience to our subscribers, irrespective of the upsurge in wireless traffic,’ commented Nghiem Phu Hoan, General Director of VNPT-Net, adding: ‘With Nokia Networks’ technical acumen and proven services expertise, we have further enhanced the overall efficiency of our 3G network, which is now set to deliver even better network coverage, capacity and throughput – factors that are key towards ensuring complete customer satisfaction.’

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that in May 2015 VNPT restructured its operations into three core business units: VNPT-Vinaphone, a provider of telecoms, IT, multimedia and television services; VNPT-Net, specialising in network infrastructure; and VNPT-Media, responsible for researching, developing and producing software and value added services (VAS).
