GNC-ALFA, the Armenian subsidiary of Russian telco Rostelecom, is offering its customers a new over-the-top (OTT) IPTV service, under which people signing up will receive six months of free access. The new offer is being launched in conjunction with retailer Vega which is selling Smart Box equipment supporting the telco’s OTT plans, in what Rostelecom describes as an innovation in the domestic broadband TV market. ‘The new service from Rostelecom can cover the whole territory. There are no restrictions for the use of the service: one needs only to be connected to internet with 2.5Mbps speed or greater. The provider can be any other operator,’ the telco’s commercial director Sedrak Ghushchyan is quoted as saying. People signing up must buy the necessary equipment from Vega stores and register for access to the OTT TV service, and if they wish to continue using the service in future, they will need only to top-up their account, he added.
