Telefonica has released its financial results for the nine months ended 30 September 2015, reporting an unaudited total revenue of EUR35.337 billion (USD38.4 billion), up 11.9% from the same period one year earlier, with the main growth drivers being mobile data revenues and the company’s Hispanoamerica revenues. Net income rose 69.6% year-on-year, reaching EUR4.577 billion, while operating income before depreciation and amortisation (OIBDA) increased 5.7% to reach EUR11.013 billion. Operating income fell 9.6% y-o-y to reach EUR4.657 billion. Telefonica reported CAPEX of EUR7.101 billion, up 44.4% year-on-year, with investments targeting transformation and differentiation of networks in order to strengthen the operator’s leadership in the main markets, and to respond to the growing demand regarding data consumption.
In operational terms, total accesses for the Group increased by 12.1% year-on-year, from 291.82 million in 3Q14 to 327.12 million in 3Q15. Mobile connections reached 251.38 million at the end of the third quarter, representing growth of 11.6% against 225.33 million at the same date one year earlier. Fixed telephony accesses rose 7.7% in the same period from 37.10 million to 39.98 million, while internet and data subscriptions climbed 18.0%, from 18.150 million to 21.410 million, with 5.829 million of these being fibre connections, up from 1.447 million y-o-y.
