KDDI Corp (au) has released its financial results for the six months ending 30 September 2015, highlighting a 22% year-on-year increase in net income to JPY277.5 billion (USD2.29 billion) as operating revenue rose 6% to JPY2.152 trillion and operating income surged 18% to JPY451.4 billion. KDDI’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew by 9.7% y-o-y to JPY727.8 billion from JPY663.3 billion; EBITDA margin improved by 1.1 percentage points to 33.8%.

In its filing, KDDI attributed the rise in operating income to an increase of ‘total ARPA revenues’, which include the sum of au average revenue per account (ARPA) revenues and value added ARPA revenues, and also reported more than three million net subscriber additions in the year to end-September, for a total of 44.640 million. Further, the Group’s UQ WiMAX division closed out September 2015 with a total of 13.159 million connections, more than double the 5.124 million in the year-ago period, and fixed line fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) users increased to 3.573 million from 3.296 million, as cable (CATV) households rose to 4.979 million.
