Grupo Televisa’s 3Q15 telecoms revenue surges 37.5%

Mexican media giant Grupo Televisa, which is a major player in the country’s telecoms sector via its ownership of Izzi Telecom, Cablevision (TVI), Cablecom, Cablemas and Telecable, has reported net sales of MXN22.256 billion (USD1.341 billion) for the three months ended 30 September 2015, a 12.2% increase year-on-year. Telecoms-specific revenues surged 37.5% on an annualised basis, from MXN5.305 billion in 3Q14 to MXN7.294 billion in the third quarter of 2015. The most recent figure was equivalent to 32% of the group’s top-line sales for the period under review.

In operational terms, Televisa’s consolidated broadband revenue generating units (RGUs) increased 33.9% y-o-y to reach 2.901 million, while voice RGUs jumped 52.5% to 1.750 million. Video customers increased 19.2% on an annualised basis. Televisa notes that its improved operating metrics primarily reflects the consolidation of Cablecom (in August 2014), and Telecable (in January 2015).
