EVO expands TD-LTE network

South Korean-backed wireless broadband provider EVO had launched time division LTE (TD-LTE) services in four new cities, adding Samarkand, Ferghana, Kokand and Bukhara to its coverage area, with plans to launch in Andijan shortly. The LTE platform replaced the ISP’s existing WiMAX technology, covering 100% of the territories and providing theoretical peak download speeds of up to 100Mbps. The operator, previously known as Super iMAX, also noted that its TD-LTE network covered 97.4% of Tashkent. Majority owner KT Corp invested around USD10 million in the network overhaul, a statement from the company noted, adding that the group had invested around USD31 million in EVO since 2008.
