Iliad acquires 50% stake in Only Reunion, Mayotte

22 Oct 2015

France’s Competition Authority (Autorite de la Concurrence) has approved French telco Iliad Group’s acquisition of 50% of the capital of Telecom Reunion Mayotte, with the unit now to be jointly owned by Iliad and Hiridjee Group. In turn, the two operators will exercise equal control over Outremer Telecom (Only) mobile operations in the French overseas territories of Reunion and Mayotte, which are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Telecom Reunion Mayotte since June 2015.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Hiridjee – which is majority owner of Madagascan telecoms operator Telma – completed the acquisition of Only Reunion and Only Mayotte from Netherlands-based Altice Group via its subsidiary Telecom Reunion Mayotte for an enterprise value of EUR80 million (USD91.6 million) in mid-2015. Telma/Hiridjee went head-to-head with six other bidders for the assets; other interested parties included the likes of Iliad, Jamaica-based Digicel Group and Group Oceinde, which owns Reunion-based fibre provider Zeop.
