O2 Czech Republic picks net mobile for Microsoft carrier billing upgrade

19 Oct 2015

Mobile operator O2 Czech Republic has contracted Dusseldorf-based net mobile – a provider of payment solutions and mobile value added services – to supply it with a carrier billing upgrade that will allow its Windows O/S handset users to pay for apps and other digital goods quickly and securely via their monthly bill. The introduction of the new billing system is seen as even more attractive in a country which has a relatively low bank account and credit card penetration, but where cellular penetration topped 136.9%, or 14.4 million connections, at end-June 2015, and where it is estimated that smartphone usage will reach over 70% of users in the next three years. Under the upgrade, O2 CR users with the Microsoft Direct Carrier Billing platform do not need to store personal details online because their details are already registered with the mobile operator.
