Vietnamese telecoms company Vinaphone has awarded a spectrum refarming contract to ZTE Corporation, with a view to optimising its services and facilitating future network planning in the central region of Vietnam. Under the agreement, the Chinese equipment vendor will help Vinaphone to reallocate some of its GSM-designated spectrum to provide UMTS services. ZTE says it will develop solutions to reallocate spectrum resources in the 900MHz frequency band, as well as helping Vinaphone to expand network capacity in the 2100MHz range.
Vinaphone will use ZTE’s advanced distributed software defined radio (SDR) base stations, unified MicroTCA platform, as well as new remote radio units (RRUs) and unified hardware platform and network management system. The project, involving networks that cover around a third of Vietnam’s area and about 20 million users, is scheduled for completion in 2016.
