Guinea-Bissau’s ARN to switch to new numbering plan on 1 November

14 Oct 2015

Guinea-Bissau’s Autoridade Reguladora Nacional (ARN) – which replaced the previous watchdog, the Guinea-Bissau Communications Institute (ICGB), following the passing of Law No. 5/2010 in May 2010 – has embarked upon a national awareness campaign as it gears up to introduce the new National Number Plan (NNP), which comes into force on 1 November 2015. ARN has deployed various teams across the country to boost awareness of the plan that will see all fixed line and mobile numbers increase from seven to nine digits. The regulator unveiled the new NNP at an event held on 2 September, at the time noting that it is essential to make the transition to a new regime to cope with increasing demand on numbering resources and guarantee additional capacity for Guinea-Bissau’s future needs.
