UAE telecoms sector grew 12.3% in 2014

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the UAE says that revenues from the country’s telecoms sector rose 12.3% in 2014 to reach AED32.8 billion (USD8.9 billion), compared to AED29.2 billion in 2013. The bulk of the total – AED25.5 billion – came from mobile services, the regulator said, followed by internet access with AED4.6 billion and fixed telephony at AED2.7 billion. Revenues from mobile services rose 16.9% in 2014, with the country home to almost 17 million cellular subscribers at the end of last year.
