Romanian quadruple-play operator RCS&RDS has launched 4G LTE services in twelve cities under its Digi Mobil brand, following its recent acquisition of 2600MHz spectrum from 2K Telecom, joining Orange Romania, Vodafone Romania and Telekom Romania in the 4G market. Since 1 October Digi Mobil subscribers with compatible devices have been able to access the new time division (TD)-LTE network at no additional cost in central Bucharest, Cluj, Oradea, Iasi, Constanta, Craiova, Brasov, Arad, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Sibiu and Timisoara, while the previously-3G-only operator has said that the outskirts of these cities will receive 4G coverage soon, Capital.ro reported.

To promote the LTE launch, Digi Mobil offered a new monthly 15GB 3G/4G mobile data package at the same price as an existing lower-volume tariff. Compatible TD-LTE (2600MHz, Band 38) devices on offer from Digi include the HTC One M9, Philips S396, Philips V526, Allview E3 Living, Allview P5 Energy, Allview E4 Lite, Allview E4 and Allview X2 Soul Pro. Devices can be purchased in full or in installments without interest. Valentin Popoviciu, vice president at RCS&RDS – Romania’s fixed broadband and pay-TV market leader which is chasing its three larger mobile rivals – declared that the group will continue to invest significantly in the 4G network to increase data speed and coverage to meet the expanding demand for mobile data traffic.
