Indonesian mobile operator Telekom PT SmartFren (Smartfren) is launching an all-out assault to secure a position in the country’s competitive 4G LTE market, with the announcement that it is launching a new series of LTE-based Andromax smartphones in cooperation with LG Innotek Indonesia, alongside the Andromax M2S mobile Wi-Fi router (MiFi). IndoTelko quotes the firm’s head of devices, Sukaca Purwokardjono, as saying that Smartfren expects the introduction of the MiFi router to boost the number of subscribers on its books by between one and 1.3 million in the coming years. The company has already put 250,000 routers in stores across the 22 cities currently served by 4G, at a cost of IDR499,000 (USD34.6), and says: ‘In the next three to six months, we are targeting 500,000 units sold.’

Earlier this month Smartfren said it was targeting signing up around 1.5 million mobile 4G users by the end of this year.
