Beeline to launch new triple-play offer; unveils ‘smart’ mobile tariff

24 Sep 2015

The Armenian PTO ArmenTel (Beeline) is preparing to launch a triple-play (broadband internet, IPTV and voice telephony) service called ‘Three in One’, the firm’s head of legal services David Sandukhchyan has told Arka News Agency. Sandukhchyan confirmed that the telco has received approval for its new tariff plan from the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC). Vimpelcom-owned ArmenTel is designated as having a dominant position in the fixed internet market and, as such, must seek the clearance of any new tariff plans before putting them on offer to end users.

In a separate development, ArmenTel has introduced a new ‘Smart’ pre-paid tariff plan for mobile users. According to a company press release, the unique selling point of Smart is that data traffic used for the WhatsApp messaging service will not be charged as part of a customer’s monthly bandwidth allowance. As a result, mobile subscribers on the Smart tariff plans will be able to use WhatsApp to make free calls to any mobile number – both at home and abroad – to anyone else with WhatsApp installed on their phone/device. The operator is offering a suite of four tariff plans: ‘Smart 1500’, ‘Smart 2500, ‘Smart 3500’ and ‘Smart 990’. The number suffix designates the monthly cost of the service, while the Smart 990 offer has been developed specifically for people living in the regions. All tariff plans include unlimited on-net mobile calls, a range of SMS packages, internet broadband allowances and unlimited communication through WhatsApp. Further, Smart 3500 also includes 150 voice call minutes to other mobile networks, while the cost of off-net calls is AMD15.9 (USD0.033) per minute on other plans.
