China Mobile inks agreement for Smart Hubei project

China Mobile, the world’s largest cellco by subscribers, has announced plans to invest CNY40 billion (USD6.3 billion) to expand its cloud computing facilities and fixed and wireless infrastructure in Hubei province over the next five years as part of the local government’s ‘Smart Hubei’ programme, Telecom Asia writes. China Mobile signed a strategic agreement with Hubei provincial government to support the Smart Hubei project in 2016-2020. Under the agreement, Mobile will accelerate the rollout of its 4G infrastructure, including the deployment of carrier aggregation (CA) technology. Further, the cellco will roll out fibre infrastructure with a view to providing high speed fixed broadband services in all prefectures and rural areas in the province.
