CWC taps Ericsson for 3G, 4G overhaul

Pan-Caribbean telecoms group Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has extended its strategic partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson to transform its 3G network and deploy 4G LTE technology in the region. The agreement includes the modernisation of existing mobile radio access and core network infrastructure for all of CWC’s markets. Further, under the agreement Ericsson will have the responsibility for project management, systems integration and support. Carlo Alloni, CWC’s executive vice president of technology and chief technology information officer, commented: ‘Mobile broadband data is a key driver for economic growth in the Caribbean and Latin America. The launch of next generation 4G LTE and 3G will ensure our customers continue to enjoy high speed access on a superior network with unparalleled customer service’.
