Brazilian full-service telecoms operator Oi has augmented its fixed broadband portfolio with VDSL technology, allowing it to offer new download speeds of 25Mbps and 35Mbps for residential and business customers. The new service has been extended to 503 municipalities across the country, although local press reports have noted that the state of Sao Paulo has been left off the initial deployment list. The 25Mbps service is priced at BRL79.90 (USD20.74) per month, rising to BRL89.90 for 35Mbps access. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database Oi’s top downlink speed was previously restricted to 15Mbps.
