Telecom Argentina, which offers mobile services under the Personal brand, plans to invest ARS18 billion (USD1.9 billion) in network upgrades and expansion between now and 2017. Of this figure, ARS5.5 billion will be invested in 2015. In December 2014 the telco was awarded a national 4G licence encompassing 1730MHz-1745MHz and 2130MHz-2145MHz AWS spectrum, as well as scooping additional spectrum in the 700MHz, 850MHz and 1900MHz bands. Telecom has now confirmed that it will use the 850MHz and 1900MHz frequencies to increase the capacity of its 2G and 3G networks by 50%, with ‘greater coverage and better accessibility’. Telecom will also seek to boost its IP backbone network, increasing capacity by ten times, which will help manage the anticipated surge in LTE traffic. Finally, Personal has confirmed that it currently has operational 4G networks available in 22 cities across 16 provinces.
