TelOne plans pre-paid billing for fixed voice

Zimbabwe’s state-owned fixed line operator TelOne is to introduce pre-paid voice services for its wireline customers in an effort to combat the problem of unpaid bills. According to a report from ITWeb Africa, the firm has been struggling to recoup customer debt of around USD160 million, with debtors including other telcos, government and public sector offices, businesses and residential users. TelOne’s managing director Chipo Mutasa commented: ‘Ultimately what we want to do is to put in a pre-paid billing platform. We might face some declining revenues, but we are saying better off revenue that is collected than to have uncollected revenue in our books.’
