Hutchison Drei Austria (Drei) has confirmed the completion of its nationwide 4G upgrade programme, asserting that all 6,000 of its base transceiver stations (BTS) have now been upgraded to the LTE standard. Drei claims that the infrastructure overhaul gives it ‘one of the densest LTE networks worldwide’. The cellco notes that 2,000 BTS were reconfigured during the last 24 months alone, concluding with a cell site in Schladming, a small ex-mining town in the south-eastern Austrian state of Styria. The network covers 98% of the population and supports downlink transmission speeds of up to 300Mbps.
