XL Axiata to deploy 518 4G base stations in eastern region

Indonesian cellco XL Axiata has revealed plans to roll out an initial 518 4G LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) in the eastern region, covering parts of Surabaya, Bali and Mataram, Bisnis reports. The move comes as the operator, a unit of Malaysia’s Axiata Group, looks to attract 850,000 4G users in the east of the country by the end of this year. Broken down, XL is building 220 4G BTS in Surabaya, 258 in Bali and 40 in Mataram, says the firm’s vice president for the East Region, Desy Sari Dewi. The company launched LTE operations commercially in May this year, and to date has deployed ten BTS in Surabaya, 25 on Bali and 14 serving Mataram.
