Italian internet service provider (ISP) Tiscali has reported a 2.7% drop in revenues for the six months to 30 June 2015, to EUR103.8 million (USD119.5 million) from EUR106.7 million a year earlier. Although access revenues were stable at EUR77.4 million, there was a 19.7% decline in turnover from voice services to EUR5.6 million. Operating profit jumped 43.3% year-on-year to EUR36.8 million, largely as a result of non-recurring transactions, while net loss improved from EUR5.7 million in 1H2014 to EUR2.0 million twelve months later.
Tiscali saw its broadband subscriber base drop to 457,200 as at end-June 2015, down from 489,200 a year before, but its mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) business attracted 42,500 net new users over the year to reach 107,100 subscribers. The ISP recently approved a merger with Italian wireless broadband operator Aria, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
