17 Aug 2015

Vodafone New Zealand has announced the completion of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile network upgrade. The NZD14 million (USD9 million) programme has seen 22 new cell sites deployed and a further 121 sites upgraded. 85% of New Zealanders now have coverage under Vodafone’s 4G network, up from 74% in February, with much of the upgrade work having been carried out as part of the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) programme, which aims to improve wireless broadband access for rural areas. Vodafone is New Zealand’s largest cellular operator by subscribers, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, with 2.36 million customers and a 39% share of the market at the end of March.
