Telenor Sweden has chosen fellow Swedish company Ericsson as the sole supplier for a large-scale upgrade of its core network, including the provision of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network to enable voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE), Wi-Fi calling and Rich Communications Services (RCS), in addition to a Wi-Fi Mobility Gateway, Mobile Softswitch solution, user data consolidation and related system integration services.
As part of a five-year deal, the rollout will begin in the third quarter of 2015 with Ericsson implementing a full suite of products and services which will enable Telenor to offer high definition (HD) voice and simultaneous web surfing over LTE networks and richer communication experiences. With Wi-Fi calling, users will be able to use the operator’s voice service over their own home Wi-Fi access point – especially useful if home’s cellular coverage is poor. Under the terms of the agreement Telenor Sweden’s user data subscriber architecture will also be upgraded to a more secure, reliable and simpler structure.
