Six line up for Lebanese mobile management contracts; Orascom not among them

10 Aug 2015

Lebanon’s telecoms minister Boutros Harb announced on Friday that six international companies have applied to manage Lebanon’s state-owned mobile networks, Alfa (currently managed by Egypt’s Orascom Telecom Media & Technology) and Touch Lebanon (currently managed by Kuwait’s Zain Group), with the results of the tender to be announced on 8 September 2015. As reported by local newspaper The Daily Star, the six bidders are Vodafone Group (UK), Orange Group (France), Deutsche Telecom (Germany) via subsidiary Datacom, Maxis (Malaysia), Turkcell (Turkey) and Zain Group. Orascom did not make the list as it reportedly failed to submit its application on time. Winners are expected to commence operations at the end of this year when the current contract extensions expire.
