600MHz auction starting 29 March; 30MHz reserve maintained

10 Aug 2015

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has established bidding procedures for the government’s planned 600MHz ‘Broadcast Television Spectrum Incentive Auction’ which is scheduled to begin on 29 March 2016. The regulator also reaffirmed its decision to impose a market-based spectrum reserve of up to 30MHz in the auction to promote competition. Last week the Commission denied a request from T-Mobile to increase the reserve to at least 40MHz for qualified licensees, reports Nasdaq.com. The FCC said providers who currently hold less than one-third of available high-quality low-band spectrum in a given licence area will be eligible to utilise the 600MHz reserve.
