Orange Polska spokesman Wojciech Jabczynski has confirmed to Media2.pl that the cellco currently has 6,131 LTE base transceiver stations (BTS) in service, and provides coverage to around 29.92 million people in a total of 2,575 towns and cities. In the last month alone, he notes that 4G coverage has been extended to Szczytno, Mragowo, Bartoszyce, Nidzica, Janow Lubelski and Chełmża.

In other news, total bids in the long-running auction of spectrum in the 800MHz and 2600MHz bands passed the EUR5.0 billion (USD1.3 billion) mark yesterday (16 July). The process, which has been running since early February, involves six firms bidding for 19 lots of frequencies. Last week it was reported that the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) and the Ministry of Administration and Digitisation (MAC) were anxiously looking for a way to conclude the auction.
