Lebanese telecoms minister Boutros Harb told local newspaper The Daily Star this week that the government has already received two formal applications in its public tender for the management of both state-owned mobile networks, from France’s Orange Group and Zain Group of Kuwait (the existing management contract holder for Touch Lebanon). Harb added: ‘We will soon also be receiving a third application from a Turkish company that asked for the modification of one item in the contract. So we have three companies applying for the tender so far.’ The existing management contracts for Touch and Alfa expire at the end of this year. It has not yet been confirmed if Alfa’s management company, Egypt’s Orascom Telecom Media & Technology Holding, is applying.
